Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how "Melofy" (hereinafter referred to as "the App") handles user information.
1. Information Collection and Purpose
The App is a tool for editing MP3 tags (title, artist, album, etc.) and playing music. It requires no account registration and performs no internet communication whatsoever (the App does not even request the INTERNET permission required to do so). The App does not transmit any information externally (including to the developer).
-
MP3 Files Selected by the User and Their Tag Information
The App uses Android's Storage Access Framework (SAF) and can only access MP3 files inside the folder the user explicitly selects via the system's folder picker. Reading, editing, and saving tags all happen locally on the device, directly on the files the user chose, and this content is never sent externally. Access is limited to the folder the user selected, and the user can revoke this access at any time from Android's app settings screen.
-
App-Internal Saved Data
The App stores, on-device only, a cache of tag information (to speed up list display), a reference to the last-opened folder, a list of "archived" songs, input history for the tag fields, and playback state (such as the last-played track). This data exists only to support the App's own functionality and is never transmitted externally.
-
Notification Permission (Android 13 and above)
To show a playback control notification while music plays in the background, the App may request notification permission at runtime on Android 13 and above. This permission is used solely to display that playback notification, and for no other purpose.
IMPORTANT: The App displays no ads, performs no analytics, and does not transmit usage data externally. Since the App does not perform any network communication, no user actions or tag information are ever sent over a network.
2. Third-Party Disclosure
The App does not transmit user information externally, and therefore does not provide information to third parties.
3. Data Retention and Deletion
The App directly edits the user's existing MP3 files (it does not copy them into an app-specific folder). Saving tag changes and deleting a file (via the App's own delete feature) are both applied directly to the original file at its original location.
- MP3 files themselves can be deleted via the App's delete feature (which requires confirmation), or via the device's file manager
- The App's internal saved data (tag cache, archive list, input history, etc.) can be removed by clearing the App's data from the device's settings
Because MP3 files remain at the location the user originally selected (outside the App's own storage), uninstalling the App does not modify or delete the MP3 files themselves. Only the App's internal saved data is removed from the device when the App is uninstalled.
4. Security
All data handled by the App is contained within the user's device and protected by Android OS security mechanisms, including SAF's scoped file access and per-app sandboxing.
